Stop the NT Intervention

Hello everyone

Firstly I want to acknowledge the Gadigal people of this tribal land and acknowledge all other tribal groups and individuals who have chosen to come and visit or stay on this land – our tribal land no matter where we travel we must acknowledge all that has passed on and acknowledge our elders their families and future children.

To all of you who have been marching and turning up each year on either rainy days or beautiful sunny days like today.

Every year you have different speakers come and speak the same story of nothing good to talk about and you all come and show your support and now it’s 11 years mind you and little has or nothing great has changed.

So I’d like to say on behalf of my Aboriginal family Territorians and supporters I want to say thank you.

For it is your voice and your showing up each year, making sure the NT Intervention stays  alive and well on the Australian Government Agenda and one day will come when our Human Rights will be taken seriously.

As we all know a destructive plan came from the Top and everybody in between who wanted to keep their jobs stayed on board and mistreated and manipulated in their scheming ways and disrespected us in many ways through their lies, anger and patronizing ways.

Every year we all have been listening and watching the racism that has risen at a tremendous rate and until the rules the policy and acts and guidelines that they have put out there, is abided by law nothing will change.

With what’s happening in the NT nothing will change, because it’s given anybody everybody with a white skin the authority to treat us like animals.

The NT Police has a slogan that says ‘to protect and serve’ but what does that mean – we live and watch the mistreatment the racism that is carried out by them

The Security in the shops and along with bouncers and taxi drivers are thinking as if they have the authority to act like they are the police.

They can verbally, physically man handle individuals who may not be breaking any law and get away with it.

Through their eyes our skin colour is different as if it gives the right to mistreat as they see fit, because they all seem to be in the same boys club.

How sad are they who don’t have a mind of their own but if they want to keep their job it’s all ok to continue what they are doing.

The white community is teaching their young ones to mistreat and disrespect our children and Elders in that way as well.

The ongoing negative effects of the so-called NT Stronger Futures continues;

Low employment opportunities – prejudice by employers

The CDP workers are forced to work up to three times longer than city based jobseekers to receive welfare payments.  CDP workers are not classified as workers; they get paid well below the minimum wage.  The dole pays $11.60 hr or $290 week for working $25 hrs a week.  They are not covered by the Fair Work Act; they don’t have federal OHS protections or Workers compensation and they can’t take annual leave, sick leave or carers leave.

The Increasing poverty continues.

Continuing increase in numbers of Aboriginal people being imprisoned and often due to unfairness such as unroadworthy vehicles or non-payment of fines

Unfairness in the justice system as customary law no longer allowed to be considered in bail and sentencing.

Huge increase in attempted self-harm / suicide rates

Big rise in numbers of bureaucrats and NGOs in prescribed areas

Increase in mental illness and loss of sense of wellbeing

Increase in numbers of children being taken from families

The social and economic situation for many Aboriginal Territorians continues to deteriorate

Lands under threat, culture is under threat, family structures are under threat.

These dire circumstances will not improve until we, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have the rights over our lives

Non-priority communities including homelands are being left behind the Governmental resources provided to homelands are barely sufficient to maintain existing levels of infrastructure and services.

They do not provide for replacement, expansion or growth.

NT government formally dismantled community councils and left the people hopeless on their own land which was once vibrant and working well when they were managing their own affairs.

Non-Aboriginal people now have the jobs that community members used to have.

The BasicsCard – criminalisation of alcohol use which leads to police at bottle shops racially profiling any Aboriginal person walking in, at all supermarkets there is the Police like profiling all Aboriginal person whilst a white person just walks out and gives a grin,

With all the racism, mistreatment, corruption that is dished out to us we are holding it together and we are watching out for one another

Like I’ve said back home in the NT;  we are all in this together and we must stay strong, stay assertive, speak up when one of our own is being harassed for no reason or just being Black and never allow our pride our dignity of being Aboriginal people lie down or to be messed with stay strong black and deadly.

After brother Raymond’s speech I have a link that I want you all to watch and I will give that to you later.

And once again ‘Thank You’ all for turning up today and for the past 10 years and your ongoing support is most appreciated and truly thank you

...Howard used lies and propaganda to introduce what can only be described as and act of war and the biggest land grab since 1788. Howard's lies were proven false and the Intervention proven to have been carried out illegally. Enter the ALP, they have all of this information laid at their feet and extended the Intervention by 10 years and called it Stronger Futures. With a federal election looming, it is worth reminding people that while the LNP and ALP differ in some area, in regards to First Nations Peoples issues, they are joined at the hip. They are nothing more than the coalition of death for Our Peoples. A vote for either the LNP or the ALP is a vote to continue what can be seen as one of the greatest human rights abuses in the past century, the NT. Intervention. Message to all of you mob having a love affair with the ALP. THEY ARE AS RACIST AS THE LNP and ALL of the statistics bear witness to that
